Founded in Montreal in 1997 by Jean-Robert Aurélien, Élie Saint-Jusna and a group of enthusiasts, LA PERLE RETROUVÉE is a Haitian cultural association born of a dream: to revive and promote the richness of Haitian culture, a fundamental pillar of Haiti's identity and sustainable development. Faced with the many challenges facing the Haitian nation, the founders chose to focus on culture as a driving force for pride, solidarity and social transformation. Culture is our roots, our memory, our collective voice. It unites generations, arouses the interest of other peoples and reminds each Haitian of the beauty and dignity of his or her origins. Since its creation, the association has worked to promote Haitian cultural heritage through activities, events and projects that bring people together. The vision of a Haitian Cultural Centre in Montreal guided its first steps and continues to inspire its initiatives today, thanks to the commitment of its members and the support of the community. The name "LA PERLE RETROUVÉE", in homage to the days when Haiti was known as the Pearl of the Antilles, reflects our hope to restore lustre and recognition to this unique culture, too often overlooked or neglected. The association has been officially incorporated as a non-profit organization since 1998, and continues to carry high the flame of a proud, radiant and united Haiti.
